Roof Baskets & Roof Cargo Carriers
Roof baskets let you carry oversized or dirty gear on top of your vehicle without filling the cabin — ideal for camping equipment, ski/snowboard gear, kayaks, luggage, and recovery equipment on overlanding builds. A properly mounted roof basket distributes load evenly across your roof rack and keeps everything secure at highway speeds.
Choosing the Right Size
- Compact baskets (36"–48" length): Fits most SUV and crossover roof racks. Good for medium loads — camping gear, luggage, one or two kayaks with proper padding.
- Full-size baskets (50"–65" length): Fills the full length of truck and SUV roof rails. Maximum cargo capacity. Used on overlanding rigs and vehicles where the roof is a primary cargo platform.
- Low-profile baskets: 2–3 inch lip height instead of the standard 4–6 inch. Better aerodynamics, less wind noise. Trade-off is reduced cargo retention on rough terrain.
Weight Ratings
Roof basket weight rating must not exceed your vehicle's Dynamic Roof Load rating (found in your owner's manual). Static ratings are higher — the dynamic rating accounts for road shock forces. Most passenger vehicles: 150–200 lb dynamic rating. Trucks and body-on-frame SUVs: often higher.
Compatibility
Roof baskets require either factory roof rails, aftermarket crossbars, or a dedicated rack system. Specify your vehicle and existing rack hardware — we'll match you to the compatible basket and mounting hardware.
