Do You Actually Need a Big Brake Kit?
Stock Audi brakes are fine for everyday driving. But if you've added performance mods, track your car, or just want better pedal feel and reduced fade — a big brake kit is the move. Larger rotors dissipate heat faster, bigger calipers apply more clamping force, and the improved brake bias transforms how the car feels under hard braking.
B8 A4/S4/A5/S5 Fitment (2008–2016)
The B8 platform uses a 5x112 bolt pattern. Factory front rotor is 320mm (A4) or 345mm (S4). A big brake kit typically upgrades to 355–380mm.
- StopTech ST-40 Big Brake Kit — 355mm 4-piston setup. Best balance of price and performance. Fits B8 A4/S4 without spacers.
- Brembo GT Series — 380mm 6-piston. Track-grade hardware. Requires 18" minimum wheel.
- Wilwood Superlite 6R — Budget track option. Good pad selection, lightweight rotors.
B9 A4/S4/A5/S5 Fitment (2017–Present)
The B9 uses an updated suspension geometry. Check caliper clearance carefully — the B9 steering knuckle is different from B8.
- ECS Tuning Big Brake Kit — Designed specifically for B9 geometry, includes all hardware.
- StopTech ST-60 — 380mm 6-piston, popular for S4/S5 owners who track occasionally.
What Wheel Size Do You Need?
Most big brake kits for A4/A5 require minimum 18" wheels. 355mm kits typically clear 18". 380mm+ kits need 19" or larger. Always check the caliper-to-spoke clearance with your specific wheel.
Pads and Fluid
A new BBK is only as good as the pads you run. For street/occasional track: Hawk HPS 5.0 or EBC Yellowstuff. For dedicated track use: Pagid RS 29 or Ferodo DS3000.
Upgrade to a DOT 5.1 fluid (Motul RBF 660 or ATE Super Blue) — stock fluid boils under sustained track use.
