Performance Downpipes for Turbocharged BMW & Audi

The downpipe is the first exhaust section after the turbocharger — and it's the single biggest restriction in most turbo BMW and Audi exhaust systems. A larger-diameter, mandrel-bent downpipe with a high-flow catalytic converter reduces turbo backpressure, improves spool time, and unlocks the power gains your tune is asking for.

Catted vs Catless

High-flow catted downpipe: Replaces the factory cat with a larger substrate (200–300 cpsi vs factory 600 cpsi). Reduces restriction while maintaining some emissions compliance. Requires ECU tune to prevent CEL. Not 50-state legal in the US.
Catless downpipe: Maximum flow, maximum power. Smells under hard acceleration. Emissions-illegal for street use in most jurisdictions. For track/race cars only.

Power Gains

On BMW N54/N55/B58 and Audi EA888 2.0T/3.0T, a downpipe combined with a tune typically nets 25–50 hp at the wheels — the most of any single bolt-on modification on these platforms.

Note on Tune Requirement

A downpipe without an ECU tune will trigger a P0420 or P0430 catalyst efficiency code within a few drive cycles. Plan to tune when installing a downpipe. Popular tunes: MHD (BMW), COBB Accessport (Audi/VW), APR, Unitronic.
